AGENDA

12:30 p.m.-1:00 p.m. Registration Opens
1:00 p.m. Opening Remarks
1:05 p.m.-1:50 p.m. New Rules on the Field of Play – Employment Law Updates
Jerry L. Pigsley and Sarah L. Carstensen, Attorneys, Woods Aitken
There are lots of changes happening in the labor & employment law sector. Federal regulations have passed (and been stayed by the courts), and the election will likely lead to different priorities from the different potential administrations. This presentation will provide important legal updates so that you can be prepared to proactively prepare your business.
1:50 p.m.-2:35 p.m. Two-Minute Drill – Preparing for the Ballot Initiatives re: Marijuana & Paid Sick Leave
Erin L. Ebeler, Attorney, Woods Aitken
Nebraska ballot initiatives relating to paid sick leave and marijuana usage present huge potential issues for the workplace. While we won’t know if the ballot initiatives pass until the week before the seminar, these topics will remain relevant regardless of whether these initiatives pass or not. For example, marijuana usage by employees is prevalent in Nebraska regardless of its legal status, and questions relating to paid sick leave arise in the context of federal or federally funded work, with employee recruitment and retention matters, and in structuring leave policies. So, regardless of whether these ballot initiatives find the end zone, employers must be ready to play the game!
2:35 p.m.-2:40 p.m. Break
2:40 p.m.-3:25 p.m. Under Review – Critical Conversations in the Workplace
Pamela J. Bourne and Ashley H. Connell, Attorneys, Woods Aitken
Communication is the number one issue in managing employees and limiting employment law risks. Being able to have conversations around difficult issues – politics, performance, complaints about discrimination or harassment, and more – will be essential to ensuring these issues are handled professionally while minimizing risk.
3:25 p.m.-4:10 p.m. Avoiding the Penalties – Ask an Attorney!
Pamela J. Bourne, Ashley H. Connell, Erin L. Ebeler, Jerry L. Pigsley, Sarah L. Carstensen, Attorneys, Woods Aitken
Submit your burning (hypothetical) questions during registration, and our attorneys will work to respond to those questions during this last seminar so that you can avoid potential penalties. Time permitting, additional questions will be taken live during the session.
4:10 p.m. Closing Remarks
4:15 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Reception & Networking
